Through this blog, I want to provide a broad audience with insights into our monastic life at Nijkleaster- Westerhûs Monastery and into our spirituality. Through short, personal posts and reflections, I hope to take readers on a journey into the world of the Nijkleaster monastic community. I’m thinking of impressions of our life at Westerhûs Monastery, explanations of the texts we use, and the choices we make. This could cover topics such as language, food, vows, birds and animals, community life, songs, and so on. After decades of reflection and spiritual exploration, I feel a inner need to share our life and spirituality, little by little, with readers near and far. I mean this literally as well. I want to make this post available in three languages—sometimes in a single language, sometimes the same post in multiple languages (Frisian, Dutch, and English).
